Muhammad Naeem:

Islamabad:”During a recent briefing, the Senate Standing Committee on IT & Telecom was informed that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has set an ambitious target of $5.2 billion in IT exports for the upcoming fiscal year.”

Officials noted that Pakistan is expected to achieve $3.8 billion in IT exports by the end of the current fiscal year, provided there are no internet disruptions and adequate budgetary support is maintained.

The committee meeting, chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan, focused on the challenges facing the IT sector, including internet outages, policy inconsistencies, and concerns about the ministry’s performance. Officials from the IT Ministry acknowledged that internet shutdowns had affected the sector, though they stated the impact this year was not severe. They emphasized that future export growth depends heavily on uninterrupted services and timely funding.
