European Countries Praise Pakistan for 47% Drop in Illegal Immigration

Islamabad: Pakistan, three European nations agree to enhance cooperation through joint mechanisms

Italy, Spain and Greece have commended Pakistan for a 47 per cent reduction in illegal immigration, agreeing on Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi’s proposal to curb irregular migration through legal pathways.

According to details surfaced on Thursday, the next conference has been decided to take place in Pakistan later this year. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with the interior ministers of Italy and Spain, and Greece’s migration minister, in Rome. The four ministers participated in a quadrilateral conference focused on preventing illegal immigration.

The three European countries praised Pakistan’s effective strategy in preventing irregular migration and decided to assist Pakistan through the European Union to enhance its capacity.

On the occasion, Naqvi said that mafias involved in illegal migration were being brought under the law. He said Europe is the most affected by illegal migration, and that a joint mechanism is essential for an effective solution to this serious challenge.

During the meeting, all four countries agreed to adopt a coordinated strategy to curb illegal migration at all levels, enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and establish a joint policy framework against illegal immigration, human trafficking and drugs.

It was decided that criminals involved in serious offences would be returned from Europe to Pakistan for action. The four leaders also agreed to make the joint and immediate response system more effective.
