Pakistan, Norway sign climate cooperation agreement

Islamabad: Pakistan and Norway have signed a key environmental cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening climate action, promoting clean energy, and advancing a green economy.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed under Paris Agreement Article 6, which focuses on international cooperation in reducing carbon emissions.

The signing ceremony was chaired by Mosaddiq Malik, highlighting the government’s commitment to climate-focused partnerships.

Focus on climate-smart agriculture

Speaking at the event, Mosaddiq Malik said the agreement would promote climate-smart agriculture in Pakistan, helping the country adapt to environmental challenges.

He added that the initiative would also prove to be a milestone for clean energy development, supporting sustainable solutions in the energy sector.

The federal minister emphasized that the partnership would strengthen Pakistan’s carbon market on a global scale, opening new avenues for climate financing.

He noted that the agreement is expected to create opportunities for a green economy, encouraging innovation and sustainable business practices.

Norway pledges full support

The Norwegian Ambassador described the agreement as the beginning of a new era of bilateral environmental cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador assured that Norway will fully support Pakistan in achieving its environmental goals, particularly in areas of sustainability and emissions reduction.

According to officials, the partnership aims to increase private sector investment in climate-related projects and accelerate green growth initiatives.

This aligns with global efforts to tackle climate change through collaboration between governments and businesses.
