‘Dates support heart, blood vessel health’

Lahore: Many people eat dates for their nutritional value and distinctive taste among foods.

According to details, the nutrition experts said moderate daily consumption may also support heart and blood vessel health. Therapeutic nutrition consultants said eating dates in moderation, at around three dates a day without excess, offers several health benefits, including support for cardiovascular health.

The experts said dates are rich in antioxidants that combat free radicals, which may reduce the likelihood of chronic heart disease, adding that dates contain vitamin B complex, magnesium and potassium, which play an effective role in regulating blood pressure and lowering harmful cholesterol levels. This helps reduce plaque build-up in artery walls and supports the health of blood vessels and the heart.

Moreover, the nutrition consultant have said that dates may also help regulate blood sugar levels and assist in addressing insulin resistance because of their moderate glycaemic index and high dietary fibre content.

The medical experts have added that dates contain high levels of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, which help strengthen bones and protect against osteoporosis.
