Punjab CM stresses human-centered urban development

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that cities are not just about roads and infrastructure, but are closely linked to human development.

She made these remarks while attending the World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan, where she also praised bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Addressing the forum, Maryam Nawaz said she carried a message of goodwill from the leadership and people of Pakistan.

She expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Azerbaijani leadership during her visit.

The chief minister also paid tribute to Azerbaijan’s founding leader, saying Heydar Aliyev was a true friend of Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz appreciated the progress made under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

She said Azerbaijan’s development journey is commendable and reflects strong governance and planning.

The Punjab chief minister emphasized that urban development should go beyond physical infrastructure.

She stated that cities must be designed with a focus on improving people’s lives, social well-being, and economic opportunities.

Maryam Nawaz said Punjab is working to overcome challenges and move forward with a people-centered development approach.

Development initiatives in Punjab

She highlighted several ongoing initiatives in Punjab aimed at improving governance and infrastructure.

According to her, the Punjab Economic Registry Survey has been launched to collect social and economic data for better planning.

She also mentioned the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing initiative, calling it a revolutionary project in the housing sector.

Rural development 

Maryam Nawaz said that around 2,000 villages in Punjab are being equipped with modern facilities.

She stressed that rural development is essential to ensure equal access to basic services across the province.

She added that roads and infrastructure are being upgraded to improve connectivity and support economic growth.

The chief minister said Punjab is developing infrastructure while keeping climate change challenges in mind.

She emphasized the need for sustainable planning to address environmental risks and future urban needs.
