YouTube expands AI search tools, deepfake safeguards for creators

Islamabad : Google is making major changes to the YouTube search experience by introducing new artificial intelligence features, including a tool called “Ask YouTube.”
According to reports, the feature will allow users to ask more detailed questions while searching, such as finding parenting advice videos or getting recommendations for game review videos to watch before bedtime.
The company stated that users would also be able to ask follow-up questions in order to refine search results further.
YouTube will gather Shorts and long-form videos before generating a combined response for users.
The feature is currently available to Premium subscribers in the United States using desktop devices through YouTube’s experimental tools programme.
The company also announced the addition of Gemini Omni, Google’s latest AI video model, to YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create application.
In a press statement, YouTube said the new model would improve storytelling by understanding user intent more accurately while handling complex video and audio adjustments in the background.
Technology firms including Meta and OpenAI have previously received mixed responses over the growing use of AI-generated content in short-form videos.
OpenAI earlier discontinued its social platform Sora, which allowed users to publish and share AI-generated clips.
YouTube is also extending its likeness-detection system to creators aged 18 and above in an effort to counter deepfake misuse in AI-generated videos.
Creators who believe they have been misrepresented in AI content may request the removal of such videos, though the wider effectiveness of the tool has yet to be established.
