PM commends Iranian leadership for accepting Pakistan’s ceasefire proposal
Abid Chaudhry:
Islamabad:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged the farsightedness of the Iranian leadership for accepting Pakistan’s proposal to pursue a ceasefire with the United States during a telephone call with President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The prime minister held a telephonic conversation with the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, which lasted for more than 45 minutes and proceeded in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. The prime minister felicitated President Pezeshkian on the ceasefire, while both sides also discussed the formal commencement of negotiations.
During the exchange, the prime minister praised the wisdom and prudence of the Iranian leadership, including President Pezeshkian, for agreeing to the ceasefire and for accepting the offer to hold negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad later this week. He also conveyed his respects to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Pezeshkian thanked the prime minister and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States. He conveyed his good wishes for the people of Pakistan and confirmed Iran’s participation in the forthcoming talks in Islamabad. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact.
Separately, President Pezeshkian, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said the ceasefire, with the acceptance of general principles sought by Iran, was the fruit of the blood of the country’s martyred leader Khamenei and the result of the presence of the people on the scene. He said that from today onward, unity would remain, whether in the field of diplomacy or defence.
