Pezeshkian says he held lengthy meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said he recently held a lengthy meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, amid continuing speculation over his health and whereabouts following reports that he was injured earlier this year.
According to Iran’s Mizan News Agency, the president said the meeting lasted around two and a half hours and centred on national and governance-related matters.
Pezeshkian said that what stood out in the meeting was the manner of engagement and discussion with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, describing the atmosphere as one of trust, calmness, empathy, and direct dialogue.
However, he did not disclose the exact agenda of the talks, nor whether any major decisions were reached.
The remarks come after months of speculation regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition following reports that he was injured during a 28 February air strike in Tehran.
International media outlets, including The New York Times citing unnamed Iranian officials, reported that he sustained multiple injuries, including wounds to the legs, in the incident.
The reports also claimed that several senior figures were killed, including members of Khamenei’s family, though Iranian authorities have not confirmed these claims.
According to those reports, he has since remained in a highly secure location, with limited public appearances and restricted communication.
No official communiqué has been issued by Iranian authorities regarding the outcome of the discussions.
Earlier, Yousef Pezeshkian said Mojtaba Khamenei was injured but remained safe and in stable condition, adding that he had sought confirmation through individuals with relevant contacts following the reports.
