Lahore:Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has been invited to attend the upcoming International Cricket Council Board meeting and the final of the Indian Premier League in India, according to official sources.
A decision on whether he will travel to India will be taken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The ICC Board meeting is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad from May 30. Discussions during the meeting will focus on proposed changes to the format of the World Test Championship. The IPL final is scheduled for May 31.
According to a cricket website, ICC meetings this month will be held in two phases. The ICC Chief Executives’ Committee will hold a virtual meeting on May 21, while the ICC Board meeting will take place on May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad, India. There is also a possibility that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi may attend the Ahmedabad meeting virtually.
The meeting is expected to discuss proposed changes to the World Test Championship format. A working group headed by former New Zealand cricketer Roger Twose has prepared fresh proposals regarding the structure.
A proposal will be presented to increase the number of teams in the World Test Championship from nine to 12. Consideration will also be given to the inclusion of Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan in the competition.
Another proposal under discussion would allow single-Test series to count towards World Test Championship points. Under the present format, each series must consist of at least two Test matches.
The ICC is hopeful that work on the new World Test Championship structure will be completed before the Edinburgh meeting in July.
ICC meetings originally scheduled in Doha were postponed due to the situation in the Middle East.
