Pakistan Auto Sales Jump 40% in FY2025-26 as Market Recovery Gains Pace

Sajid Ali:

Lahore: Pakistan’s automotive industry posted a strong recovery during fiscal year 2025-26, with total vehicle sales increasing by 40% compared with the previous year. The growth was supported by improving consumer confidence, easier access to auto financing, the introduction of new vehicle models and stronger economic activity.

According to the latest figures released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), approximately 155,000 vehicles were sold nationwide during FY2025-26, reflecting a significant improvement in market performance after a prolonged period of weak demand.

The association’s data showed positive growth across almost all segments of the automotive industry, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws, tractors, jeeps and pickup trucks.

Industry analysts said the latest performance indicates that Pakistan’s automobile market is steadily regaining momentum as economic conditions continue to improve.

Car Sales Increase in June

On a monthly basis, car sales also maintained an upward trend. PAMA reported that 15,378 cars were sold in June, marking a 13% increase compared with sales recorded in May.

The increase highlights sustained consumer demand despite ongoing economic challenges.

Commercial Vehicle Segment Leads Growth

The commercial vehicle segment registered the strongest performance during the fiscal year. Sales of trucks and buses climbed 67% to 7,440 units in FY2025-26.

Industry observers attributed the sharp rise to increased business activity and growing demand for transportation and logistics services across the country.

Strong Demand for Jeeps and Pickups

Sales of jeeps and pickup trucks also recorded healthy growth, rising 41% to 50,814 units during the fiscal year.

The segment continued to benefit from strong demand for multi-purpose vehicles among both individual buyers and commercial users.

Motorcycle and Rickshaw Sales Climb

Motorcycles and rickshaws remained the largest segment of Pakistan’s automotive market. Sales increased by 30% during FY2025-26, reaching 1.972 million units.

The continued growth reflects the importance of two- and three-wheelers as affordable and practical transportation options for millions of Pakistanis.

Industry experts said higher purchasing power among consumers, improved financing facilities and the availability of new vehicle models encouraged more buyers to enter the market. They added that expanding commercial activity also boosted demand for trucks, buses and other transport vehicles.

With growth recorded across passenger vehicles, commercial transport and two- and three-wheelers, Pakistan’s automotive sector appears well positioned to maintain its recovery in the new fiscal year.
