Islamabad: The Punjab government organised its first major tourism expo in Lahore to promote the province as an international tourist destination and attract global investment. The event, called the “Magnificent Punjab Tourism & Investment Expo 2026,” brought together government officials, investors, and tourism businesses on one platform.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb described the event as a historic step, saying Punjab is ready to present its tourism potential to the world. She explained that tourism is now an important sector that supports economic growth, creates jobs, and builds a country’s global image.
The expo highlighted Punjab’s heritage cities, cultural sites, religious tourism, eco-tourism locations, and new investment opportunities. It also encouraged partnerships between the government and private sector to develop tourism projects.
Officials announced an investment of around Rs78 billion for tourism development. Work is already ongoing at 170 locations, and about 60 of these sites are expected to be completed by December 2026.
The government also plans to connect tourism with modern trends like digital technology and film tourism. Officials said the upcoming Punjab Film City will help promote the province internationally through movies and media.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab aims to develop tourism as a year-round industry, improve facilities, and make it easier for investors to do business.
The event ended with a message inviting international visitors and investors to explore and invest in Punjab’s growing tourism sector.
