Punjab allows summer camps in schools from June 1

Islamabad:The Punjab School Education Department has permitted both government and private schools across the province to hold summer camps from June 1 to June 30, alongside issuing comprehensive safety guidelines to protect students during the extreme summer heat.

According to a circular issued by the Punjab School Education Department, schools will be permitted to conduct summer camps throughout the month of June.

The camps will run from June 1 to 30 and will be open to students of all classes.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at providing learning opportunities during the summer break while ensuring compliance with health and safety measures.

Camps restricted to morning hours

The department has directed that summer camps may only be held from Monday to Thursday. Camp activities will be allowed exclusively between 7am and 10am to protect students from extreme daytime temperatures.

According to the circular, summer camps will remain closed on Fridays.

Participation not mandatory

Officials clarified that participation in summer camps will not be compulsory for students. Schools have been instructed to obtain parental permission before allowing students to attend.

The department emphasized that attendance must be entirely voluntary and based on the consent of parents or guardians.

Private schools have been barred from charging any additional fees for summer camp activities. Officials said schools must not impose extra financial burdens on parents under the guise of summer programs.

Any violation of these instructions could result in legal action.

Activities must remain indoors

The School Education Department has ordered that all summer camp activities be conducted inside classrooms or other indoor environments.

The move is intended to protect students from exposure to intense heat and harsh weather conditions. Schools have been advised to avoid outdoor activities during camp hours.

Schools directed to ensure facilities

School administrations have been instructed to provide adequate facilities for students attending summer camps. These include the availability of cold drinking water, proper sanitation arrangements, functioning fans and reliable power backup systems.

Officials said these measures are necessary to maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment during the hot summer months.
