Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government on Friday announced a reduction in fuel prices, bringing relief to consumers across Pakistan.
Petrol and diesel rates have been cut by up to Rs6 per litre for the upcoming week.
The revised prices will take effect from midnight on May 23.
The Government of Pakistan has reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices as part of its weekly fuel adjustment review.
According to the Petroleum Division, petrol prices have been cut by Rs6 per litre, while high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs6.80 per litre.
The new pricing will remain in effect for one week.
New petrol and diesel rates in Pakistan
Under the revised structure:
- Petrol will be sold at Rs403.78 per litre
- High-speed diesel will be priced at Rs402 per litre
The new rates will officially apply from 12:00am on Saturday, May 23.
Fuel price adjustment mechanism
Officials said the price revision is part of the government’s regular fuel pricing mechanism, which tracks global oil market trends and currency fluctuations.
The latest cut follows a previous reduction of Rs5 per litre announced last week, continuing a short-term downward trend in fuel prices.
