Two ships collide in sea near Karachi port

A late-night collision between two cargo ships in the open waters near Karachi Port caused a container from MV Papu to fall into the sea, port authorities confirmed on Friday.

The accident involved MV Neva and MV Papu and occurred outside Karachi Port late Thursday night, according to officials.

Karachi Port Trust Chairman Rear Admiral (retd) Shahid Ahmed confirmed the incident while speaking to Samaa TV.

Port authorities said a container from MV Papu fell into the sea due to the collision. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Officials said the ships collided accidentally.

After the accident, MV Neva was moved to berth number 5. Authorities said the unnamed vessel was brought to the port for repairs.

MV Papu is currently standing at the OPL, according to port officials.

Investigation underway

KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (retd) Shahid Ahmed said the incident is being investigated. Authorities are examining how the collision occurred and assessing the damage caused to the vessels.

Further action will be taken after the inquiry is completed.
