Ghalibaf says no US deal without tangible results

Islamabad: Iran has toughened its position on future negotiations with the United States, with senior lawmaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf saying any agreement must deliver clear and tangible outcomes.

The remarks came during the opening session of Iran’s parliament on Sunday, according to state media reports.

Speaking after taking his oath as the re-elected speaker of parliament, Qalibaf said Iran will not trust US assurances in any negotiation process.

“There is no trust in the enemy’s words and promises,” he said, adding that Tehran’s only standard is achieving verifiable and practical outcomes before committing to any obligations.

His comments reflect Iran’s continued skepticism toward talks with the United States, amid long-standing tensions between the two countries.

‘No trust’ in US commitments

Qalibaf stressed that Iran’s approach to diplomacy remains conditional and result-oriented.

“Our only criterion is to achieve tangible results before we fulfill our commitments in return,” he said, reinforcing Tehran’s demand for guarantees before any reciprocal steps.

He further emphasized that Iran will not proceed with any deal unless it is fully certain that its stated conditions are met, signaling a cautious and hardened negotiating position.

The parliament speaker reiterated that Iran’s negotiating team remains firm in its approach, suggesting continuity in Tehran’s foreign policy posture.

He said Iran’s position is backed by what he described as “readiness to sacrifice for the people of Iran,” underlining the political sensitivity surrounding any potential agreement with Washington.

The statement comes as diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington remain limited and indirect, with periodic tensions continuing over nuclear and regional issues.
